This guide begins by setting the context and explaining why issues of ownership, data sharing and balancing public interest with industry needs are important. It then presents evidence in witch conflicts and controversies have emerged in different countries. It considers what the Councils could o and delves into confidential agreements and discusses employment contracts and non-disclosure agreements. A case study is then presented where a breach of confidentiality led to legal redress. It concludes by providing the Councils with two templates (i) sample employer – employee contract and (ii) sample non- disclosure agreement (NDA).
