Description
The Scinnovent Centre, in partnership with the Association of African Universities (AAU) and the ATDF Entrepreneurship Hub (AEH), organized a three-day training workshop for Science Granting Councils (SGCs) on Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer, and Commercialization. The training, held from October 16–20, 2023, in Mombasa, Kenya, was part of the Scinnovent Centre’s mandate to promote public–private partnerships (PPPs) for research and innovation and to support SGCs in their role as facilitators of knowledge exchange with the private sector. Intellectual Property (IP) refers to creations of the human mind that can be legally protected. Common types of IP include patents, utility models, copyrights, trade secrets, plant breeders’ rights, and geographical indications. Weak IP regimes hinder knowledge and technology transfer between universities, research institutes, and the private sector.
