Description
Weak intellectual property regimes hinder knowledge and technology transfer between universities, research institutes, and the private sector. To address this, many institutions have developed IP policies and established technology transfer offices (TTOs) and intellectual property management offices (IPMOs). However, these offices are often under-resourced, and awareness and support for researchers remain inadequate. Recognizing this gap, science granting councils (SGCs) prioritized training in research commercialization and collaborative partnerships during workshops in Maputo and Pretoria. To build capacity in fostering public-private partnerships (PPPs) for research and innovation, the Scinnovent Centre offers specialized training on intellectual property, technology transfer, and commercialization. The inaugural course, held in Addis Ababa in June 2019, focused on equipping Councils with the skills to broker partnerships and facilitate effective technology transfer between research institutions and the private sector.
