Finally, it recommends strengthening enforcement, raising awareness, simplifying registration, promoting ADR, and supporting local businesses to better manage and benefit from IP.

Description

Ivory Coast has a solid legal framework for IP, aligned with OAPI and international treaties (WIPO, TRIPS). There are examples of successful PPPs and technology transfer initiatives. The government’s focus on promoting local pharmaceutical manufacturing, renewable energy, and value addition in agriculture is positive. The establishment of specialized industrial zones like VITIB is a notable strength. Enforcement of IP rights remains a challenge, despite the legal framework. Awareness of IP rights among local actors, especially farmers and SMEs, is limited. The report also highlights the length of legal processes and limited use of ADR. The report recommends strengthening IP enforcement mechanisms, conducting more IP awareness campaigns, promoting the use of ADR, simplifying IP registration processes, and providing targeted support to local businesses for IP management.
