The Scinnovent Centre and its partners conducted a three-day methodology workshop on “Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer and Commercialization” for the Science Granting Councils on 16 – 20 October 2023 at the Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort in Mombasa, Kenya. The workshop brought together 31 delegates from 12 SGCI - participating countries including: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi and Zimbabwe. There was adequate gender representation with 33% of the delegates and 50% of the facilitators (IP experts) being women. The workshop had three main objectives including: i)· To train participants on the principles, processes and practice of conducting IP audits; ii) To train participants on how to develop institutional IP policies and strategies and iii) To enhance the capacities of the participants on public – private partnerships and stakeholder engagement strategies.
