Description
Namibian society have not been able to harness the full benefits of indigenous plants and corresponding knowledge. Lack of policy frameworks and resources for commercializing these products since the early 90s saw non-Namibians benefit more than the citizens themselves (Chinsembu and Chisembu, 2020 as cited in Heeren-Hauser et al. 2020). The National Bioeconomy Strategy 2023/28 will set the scene for employing programmes and initiatives that will help Namibia to take advantage of the benefits of Bioeconomy. Successful implementation of this strategy will ensure improved quality of life of communities and economic growth through research, development innovation (RDI) that resolves socio-economic issues in Namibia. Bioeconomy cuts across the sectors that speak to issues of health, food security, and nutrition and directly impacts productivity, especially in the manufacturing sector. This strategy will promote the use of bioeconomy activities to address critical gaps in the economy.
