The past two decades have witnessed rapid global growth in powerful digital technologies, driving a "digital revolution" that has transformed communication, data acquisition, computation, artificial intelligence, and information sharing. This revolution, integral to the 4th industrial revolution, profoundly impacts citizens, societies, economies, and science. A key development enabled by this revolution is Open Science, which holds immense potential to harness these advancements for societal and economic benefits. Recognizing this potential, the African Science Granting Councils Initiative commissioned a report titled Open Science in Research and Innovation for Development in Sub-Saharan Africa. The report highlights the digital revolution's basis and impacts, the necessity for Africa to address its challenges, and strategies for leveraging Open Science as a transformative initiative for the continent's development.
