Description
Under the Tamarind Tree traces the life and times of two childhood friends, Orisso and Nyagenga. Born and brought up in the same village, their lives took divergent trajectories when Orisso pursued formal education while Nyagenga dropped out of school at an early age due to a debilitating sports injury. Orisso went to university, got formal employment, went abroad for further studies and traveled across the world due to the nature of his job. Meanwhile, Nyagenga stayed in the village, the farthest he ever got out of the village was short stints at the capital city’s industrial area. The stories are weaved around the challenges they faced in life and how they dealt with them, drawing on each other’s strengths, knowledge and wisdom gained through the divergent life’s experiences. The stories espouse courage in the face of difficulties, hope amidst despair and resoluteness to bounce back from adversity.
